Get Ready for Summer Art Markets!

Dear Friends,

After a busy May filled with literary icons and lively readings during the Santa Fe International Literary Festival, we are ready for the summer markets to kick off!

International Folk Art Market | July 11 – 14

This market is one of my favorites because it celebrates the diversity of traditions, crafts, and cultures the world over. The International Folk Art Market (IFAM) envisions a world that values the dignity and humanity of the handmade, honors the exchange of ideas and promotes creative thinking, and supports the work of artisans serving as catalysts for positive social change – something we need now more than ever.

It has been such an honor to serve on the board of IFAM over the years. Witnessing the organization evolve and grow has been incredibly fulfilling because each year I know that so many more artists and their families across the globe are thriving through the power of the arts.

I can’t wait to check out the innovative Nigerian textiles of Ifeoma, the talented visionary behind the Mbili Fashion designs of Lagos, Nigeria; the handcrafted leather goods by Attila József Kovács — hailing from a lineage deeply rooted in the artistry of leatherworking in the mountains of Hungary; the DeLirio collaborative artwork on eco-friendly paper, made by engraving artists of Michoacan. The list of talented artists participating this year seems endless. Explore the artists here and plan to visit this popular market.

Spanish Market | July 27 & 28

This year marks the 72nd annual Traditional Spanish Market. As the only event of its kind worldwide – the oldest and largest juried art show in the nation – Traditional Spanish Market draws thousands of visitors each summer to experience the rich Hispanic culture we embrace in the heart of the City Different.

Discover gorgeous, punched tin artwork, vibrant retablos, handcrafted silver jewelry, hand carved and goldleaf-framed paintings of religious and regional motifs and more during this festive event.

Southwest Association of Indian Arts (SWAIA)
Santa Fe Indian Market | August 17 & 18

Situated just outside the hotel, Santa Fe Indian Market is one of the most vibrant times of the year in Santa Fe and at the hotel. Not only is the town filled with the electric energy emitting from hundreds of phenomenal artists, including Pat Pruitt, Marla Allison, Mateo Romero, George Alexander, Tony Abeyta, Ira Lujan, Sheldon Harvey, Jordan Ann Craig — just some of the participating artists whose works are on display at the hotel. La Fonda becomes the central hub for the exchange of great conversations and collaborative ideas to keep the movement in Native arts moving forward and evolving year after year.

A Drawing Of A House

Also at La Fonda during this time is the Sovereign Santa Fe art exhibit in our Lumpkins Ballroom. This show is the perfect introduction to the market scene for emerging artists and student work from the Institute of American Indian Arts. Plus, it is open free of charge to hotel guests! Plan to tour this fantastic exhibit while you are here.

Lensic 360 Events | All Summer Long!

La Fonda is proud to support the incredibly innovative Lensic 360, the live music performance branch of Santa Fe’s famed Lensic Performing Arts Center. Lensic 360 brings world-class talent to venues across the state, creating a hip, dynamic vibe that resonates with all ages and offers top-quality, free community programs. We are thrilled about some of their upcoming shows, like the Avett Brothers with Iron & Wine and Dwight Yoakam with The Mavericks. Be sure to check out their exciting lineup!

We cannot wait to see you at the market(s)!
