Celebrate the Power of Story
Dear Friends,
Just like a great book has the power to imprint its tender meaning on your heart, a place rich with history and seasoned by time opens your imagination to a future of new and vibrant possibilities.
At La Fonda, we are committed to embracing the future with the same amount of gusto we cherish the past. We invite you to explore the spaces in between with equal parts curiosity and awe and immerse yourself in the spirit of hospitality we have mastered over the decades.
A hub for photographers, designers, painters and poets, scientists, musicians and endless dreamers, the hotel attracts thinkers and thoughtful visionaries that respect both creation and preservation. That’s why we are thrilled to host a cohort of the Santa Fe International Literature Festival’s readers and panelists for this year’s festival (May 15 – 17). If you’re into writing that challenges norms and encourages deep thinking, this event is for you. Ocean Vuong, James McBride, and Rebecca Solnit are just a few of the authors to be featured at this year’s festival, as authors convene in the land of ristras and green chile to celebrate our shared love of language and oral and written traditions. Check out the lineup here.
Perched at our Bell Tower Rooftop Bar, facing the sacred Loretto Chapel, is my favorite spot to imagine dusty caravans of the past; the clatter and clop of mules hauling textiles, tools and whiskey from the east along the iconic Old Santa Fe Trail. The view from La Fonda reveals the dynamic evolution of The City Different – from a Spanish colony to a Mexican outpost, to an American territory with a mix of cultures and traditions – and ultimately, in 1912, the 47th state. And there’s no better place to take it all in than from our rooftop bar, now open for the season!
Our new Executive Outlet Chef, Marc Quiñones, working under our long time Executive Chef Lane Warner, has created a menu that pairs perfectly with our purple-pink sunsets and the drama of each New Mexico dusk. Enjoy signature cocktails and good times with friends at Santa Fe’s most sought-after summer destination – open noon to sunset daily (weather permitting).
And, it’s never too early to start planning for Fred Harvey experiences! This June you can experience the first-ever Frediversary weekend in Arizona (6/18-22). With dynamic talks and delicious meals scheduled at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, The Grand Canyon South Rim, and at La Posada Hotel in Winslow, they’ll be plenty of Fred-focused stories and Colter-inspired conversations!
In November the Fred Harvey History Weekend in Santa Fe is always such a meaningful way to connect with the stories that shaped this region. While you visit us this fall, We hope you’ll take a moment to enjoy our beautifully renovated lobby and bar slated for completion later this summer. The reimagined space is a wonderful blend of history and new design elements that we hope you’ll love.
Nos vemos allá arriba! (See you up there!),
