Jenny’s View

Dear Friends,

Our hotel is often beaming with warmth – and it’s not just from the glow of burning piñon – it emits from each smiling face and generous act of our wonderful employees. Employees are the center of our 2024 success.

Our polestar, they constantly emit the spirit of hospitality that resonates with folks across the globe. You keep coming back, and we cannot thank you enough for being part of our cherished family. The generosity and familial spirit of our team is unbreakable, and it is with the same passion and drive that we launched our Foundation. Last year La Fonda Foundation started an especially important initiative, the Employee Hardship Fund.  Whether assisting staff members experiencing personal crisis to secure safe housing and emotional support or extending much needed funds when a vehicle breaks down, the Hardship Fund has been a successful extension of our giving initiatives. The work of La Fonda Foundation is near and dear to our hearts and ensures that our commitment to assisting hourly hospitality employees extends beyond just La Fonda. Already, we are making an impact across the Santa Fe hospitality community.

In addition to launching our foundation last year, La Fonda was again recognized as a nominee for the Historic Hotels of America annual Excellence Awards. This time, it was La Plazuela that received the limelight for its timeless commitment to showcasing the best of local flavors in a dining room that honors the rich traditions of the past, all while pushing the envelope in the realm of modern cuisine.  Who can argue that a dining experience surrounded by folk artsy, hand-painted windows, the sound of our historic central fountain and a view of blazing flames from our portal fireplace doesn’t set the stage for the ultimate dining experience? Top it off with our super Chef, Lane Warner’s food pairings inspired by our local farmer’s markets, and the combination of place and local flavors creates a true culinary delight.

Last year, our amazing General Manager, Fermin Moran completed his first full year back at the hotel. For those of you that met Fermin in his previous life as our Front Desk Manager, I encourage you to meet him in his new capacity – as he’s grown into an inspiring and generous leader.  We couldn’t be prouder!  He played a key role in securing our win for “Best Lodging” at the New Mexico Hospitality Top Hat Awards where we also honored a long list of our employee nominees. Not to worry. Our fabulous prior GM, Rik Blyth is still running around the hotel, supporting Fermin and the rest of the team as president of La Fonda Hospitality Group.

Join me in celebrating our team: Hugo Hidalgo, Adbel Grijalva, Jesusita Salazar, Kevin Wu – all well-deserving nominees for front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house Top Hat recognized employees. I’m especially proud of the Top Hat Winner for Hospitality Professional of the Year, our very own Director of Human Resources, Lisa Bertelli.  With over forty years of dedicated service to La Fonda, I cannot think of anyone better deserving of this honorable distinction. It has been an honor and a true pleasure to know and work with Lisa these many years at the hotel together.

In 2024 we expanded our spirit of service even further by adding our sister property, Piñon Court to the Santa Fe lodging mix. The addition has only enhanced and enriched our service to the community. The sweet, 65 room motor lodge is positioned for success – especially as the Route 66 Centennial Anniversary nears!

We welcome a vibrant 2025 that honors service and generosity and look forward to seeing what the new year brings for all of us at La Fonda, our guests and our team. We wish each of you a very happy, healthy new year.

Cheers and best wishes to all!
