Love La Fonda
Dear Friends,
This is the time of year I like to cozy up next to a kiva fireplace and enjoy the comforting scent of burning piñon, wrapped in my favorite Pendleton blanket, clutching a great book. It is a month to slow down and reflect on the people, events and places that pull on your heartstrings. Here’s a few of my favorites:
National Margarita Day
It turns out love for this tequila-inspired cocktail spans beyond the Land of Enchantment. Salud to National Margarita Day (Feb 22)! Of course, my top pick is Ethel’s Blue Margarita, inspired by the late-Ethel Ballen – a deeply creative, kind and generous woman and a former owner of the hotel alongside her husband, Sam. This one’s for you, Ethel!
Live Local Music
After three decades performing at La Fiesta Lounge, my close friend and Santa Fe music icon Bill Hearne was named a La Fonda legend for a reason: he has a heart of gold and the voice of a cowboy angel. He’s beloved by so many, including the amazing Lyle Lovett, who Bill has performed with in the past. Listen and watch this special Facebook performance and conversation between the two great musicians.
On February 12th we’re celebrating Bill’s charmed soul and folk tunes with a birthday cake brimming with 75 candles! Come on out and join us for an evening of two-steppin’ in his honor!
La Plazuela at La Fonda
In the heart of Santa Fe, our romantic dining room is surrounded by hand-painted windows, where in the evenings, glass panels reflect the warmth of piñon flames glowing from our iconic portal fireplace. There’s no restaurant in town that embodies such a distinct sense of place – where history and the present collide in a timeless atmosphere perfect to celebrate those near and dear to us. Our award-winning Chef de Cuisine, Rafael Zamora has created this delightful Valentine’s Day Prix Fixe menu showcasing the authentic flavors of the region. Call (505) 995-2334 to book a table.
Ski Santa Fe
There’s not a February I can remember when Ski Santa Fe didn’t cross paths with a fluff-puffed snow storm that dumped heaps of powder onto our beloved Sangre de Cristo peaks; this past weekend attests to that tradition, with the delivery of 34+ inches of airy powder across our enchanted peaks! There’s always a storm that rolls through late in the month, and nearly always mid-week, so for all of you locals out there, make plans now to play hooky and enjoy some of the best turns in the west! Fingers crossed it happens again this month – you’ll know where to find me!
Art + Sol
Art + Sol is a special kind of arts festival that celebrates world-class music, comedy, theater, dance and education during an 11-day celebration (Feb 9-19) when the snow on the peaks is still fluffy and the sky is full of sunshine. The festival collaborates with the local arts organizations in town including International Museum of Dance, The Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus and Performance Santa Fe.
There’s no shortage of warmth, generosity and unique experiences in our diverse city. We look forward to your next visit!
With love,
Jenny
