Autumn Vibes at La Fonda

Dear Friends,

In Santa Fe, shimmering aspen leaves transition from vivid greens to blazing yellows and the signature aroma of Hatch chiles roasting in metal drums over open flames lingers at our street corners. There’s no better place to soak up the magic of this season than the City Different.

I love that every year during the transition between the hustle and bustle of summer and the cooler and festive days of winter, autumn affords us each the opportunity to pause and reflect. My go-to places to digitally detox this time of year are the Santa Fe National Forest and the Dale Ball trails. Whether you’re into mountain biking, hard core hiking or simply a leisurely stroll, the forest invites you to take in the wild scents of nature and reconnect with its simple, complex beauty. The National Forest and the Dale Ball trail network are located just a 20-minute drive from La Fonda’s front door – they are the perfect place to check in with your inner angels and detach from the chaos on your cell phone. Amongst the intricate web of aspens and their gorgeous array of leaves – it’s easier to find unity and peace.

This month we’re proud to sponsor the Santa Fe Conservation Trust’s Stand Up for Nature fundraising event. The Santa Fe Conservation Trust’s mission is to protect culturally and environmentally significant landscapes, ignite people’s passion for nature and enable the continual regeneration of natural environments. Join us in supporting their efforts here.

And of course, the skies above Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Bosque embrace the thrill of flight as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta launches a dynamic cast of colorful characters and shapes above our dramatic and serene landscapes. Tourism Santa Fe has launched a shuttle service to streamline the viewing experience.  Catch a ride to the early mass ascension – and stay for the glow!  Book your spot(s) here.

We’ll close out the month with a community focused Dia de Los Muertos celebration right on the Plaza. Make sure to stop by the hotel to visit our lobby’s gorgeous offrenda display in honor of our dearly departed – and feel free to participate! Remembering loved ones, dear friends and the countless folks that have contributed to our community is important, helps us build empathy and understanding of others and reminds us of the transitional nature of our very precious lives.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for one of our favorite fundraising events of the year: The Fred Harvey History Weekend! Celebrate the legacy of iconic hotelier, Fred Harvey and the Harvey Girls during an annual gathering spearheaded by my dear friend and Fred Head extraordinaire, Stephen Fried. Benefitting the New Mexico History Museum, this event features special lectures, tours and a special Foodie Dinner held in our Lumpkins Ballroom.  Tickets can be purchased here. It’s always a festive time.

Let’s remember to do the good we have the power to do.

I hope to see you at La Fonda!
