New Mexico Summer Adventure
Dear Friends,
There’s a reason La Fonda is known by many as “Santa Fe’s Living Room”. For over a century we have been the city’s central launchpad for summer adventure. Our lobby is always bustling with history buffs and tour guides, La Fiesta Lounge, a hot spot for classic cocktails and live music, and of course, our guest rooms, a perfect place to kick back and immerse yourself in authentic hospitality.
Last month, we were deeply honored to be inducted into the New Mexico Tourism Hall of Fame as a Legendary Hospitality Institution, the first hotel to earn this distinguished accolade. This award, presented during the conference’s annual gala dinner, acknowledges the century-long legacy La Fonda has cultivated at the very heart of Santa Fe. We share this milestone with every guest, employee, and partner who has contributed to our enduring story. What a way to kickstart our summer of adventure!
For those of you interested in tying flies and wading the Pecos, ascending the Land of Enchantment’s highest peak, Mount Wheeler, sampling the best of the state’s vintners and distinguished spirit producers, immersing yourself in Puebloan art and history, all while exploring historic women mile markers along the way — New Mexico is the place for you! We invite you to experience the best of our beautiful state this summer.
In Santa Fe, we’re gearing up for the many popular summer markets. Plan for a few of our favorites: the International Folk Art Market, Traditional Spanish Market, and the Santa Fe Indian Market.
The International Folk Art Market (Jul 10-13) is near and dear to me. Having served on the board for many years, it has been a pleasure to see the market evolve into a major destination art event, featuring over 150 unique artists from across the globe! Some of my favorite artisans are Blanc de Noir, with gorgeous silver jewelry from Laos, Bindaas from India one of the most creative woodblock printed textile makers I’ve come across, and Aboubakar Fofana, from Mali, who has taken indigo dying to a masterful level. I triple dare you to stop by these booths and not walk away with a handmade treasure!
The Traditional Spanish Market (Jul 25-27) celebrates Hispanic heritage in the center of the city. The event showcases heritage artwork, music, food and culture while preserving the region’s long-standing Spanish traditions. Discover retablo paintings, bultos (wooden statues of saints), traditional colcha embroidery and more!
Santa Fe Indian Market (Aug 16-17) is the largest and most prestigious Indigenous art market in the world. Presented by the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA), this annual market has been a citywide tradition for over one hundred years. It’s one of my favorite markets to discover new work for La Fonda’s art collection. Don’t miss it!
I can’t wait to see you at the markets!
